PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 10, 2004--
Scalable Test Platform Supports High-Speed Serial
Applications from 1 Gbps to 10.3125 Gbps and Beyond
Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today announced that Xilinx
Inc. (Nasdaq:XLNX) has selected the Agilent 93000 SOC Series test
system to characterize its Virtex-II Pro series of ultra-high-speed
FPGAs with integrated RocketIO multi-gigabit transceivers. Agilent was
selected for at-speed characterization of devices at all popular
high-speed serial standard nodes, including 1, 2.5, 3.125, 5, 6.25 and
10 Gbps.
The Xilinx RocketIO multi-gigabit transceivers offer the highest
performance and most complete functionality of any embedded or
standalone SerDes (serializer/deserializer) in the industry. Xilinx
has invested in the Agilent 93000 SOC tester because it is the only
test platform that meets customer demand for performance
characterization of designs with data rates pushing 13 Gbps. In the
future, Xilinx can easily upgrade its installed tester with new
capabilities, extending the useful lifetime of installed capital
equipment and protecting its long-term investment.
"Our customers have made it clear that our highest-speed serial
components are mission-critical to their product success," said Jae
Chao, director of product/test engineering at Xilinx. "The Agilent
93000, coupled with the excellent application support team at Agilent,
has been invaluable for validating our components at these ultra-high
speeds. It's the only platform that we've found capable of accurately
testing our RocketIO multi-gigabit transceivers, especially in jitter
tolerance."
With test processor-per-pin functionality and features such as
differential signaling, native source-synchronous support,
high-throughput jitter measurement and high pin counts, the Agilent
93000 SOC Series provides the technical edge for testing high-speed
serial communications interfaces.
"Xilinx consistently pushes the envelope with devices that press
the limits of today's ATE equipment," said Tom Newsom, vice president
and general manager of Agilent's SOC Business Unit. "Our scalable
93000 Series is the only system that delivers the test capabilities
required by Xilinx at all important data transmission nodes. As these
nodes transition beyond 10 Gbps, we will anticipate market needs and
provide test solutions in lockstep with performance demands."
About the Virtex-II Pro Series
The Xilinx Virtex-II Pro Series FPGAs incorporate up to 20
RocketIO multi-gigabit transceivers, supporting operating ranges of
600 Mbps to 10.3125 Gbps per channel. The devices are the first
programmable ICs that can directly drive optical transceivers. Xilinx
RocketIO supports all major serial standards, including InfiniBand,
Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Serial RapidIO, Fibre Channel,
XAUI, PCI Express, UXPI, Aurora and SONET.

About the Agilent 93000 SOC Series
The Agilent 93000 SOC Series is the industry's fastest-growing,
lowest-cost single, scalable platform with more than 800 installed
systems worldwide. The Agilent 93000 SOC Series is designed to meet
both the demanding performance and cost challenges of SOC testing.
Models are configured to span the widest range of applications that
may require ultra-high-speed digital data rates, up to 10 Gbps, and
the broadest range of mixed-signal and RF capabilities. With this
range of capabilities, the 93000 SOC Series is the first choice for
subcontract manufacturers (SCMs) and the preference for high-volume
manufacturing. More information is available at
