PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 2000--
Acquisition to Shorten Development Time of Agilent Solutions for
Fast-Growing Wireless Market
Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced the signing of
an agreement to acquire ATN Microwave Inc. ATN, founded in 1984,
specializes in microwave measurement solutions for wireless and
high-speed data communication applications. Financial terms of the
agreement were not disclosed.
The acquisition of ATN -- with 26 employees located in North
Billerica, Mass. -- will provide Agilent with products, engineering
expertise and intellectual property related to the measurement of
multiport devices, balanced circuits, signal integrity, large-signal
characterization, and noise, as well as electronic calibration of test
instruments. These areas are increasingly critical in the design and
manufacture of components used in the communications industry.
Acquiring ATN will allow Agilent to integrate these technologies
earlier into its test platforms.
"Components are critical at the beginning of the wireless-industry
`food chain,' and typically need to be designed well before a wireless
product comes on the market," said Dave Myers, vice president and
general manager of Agilent's Component Manufacturers Unit. "The
increasing complexity of components and the need to reduce time to
market has our customers looking for new testing solutions. Combining
forces with ATN means we can expedite solutions to these customers."
There are no plans to relocate the ATN operation, but Agilent
plans to continue building the ATN operation into a premier
application development center for RF component-test solutions. ATN
will be part of Agilent's component test business headquartered in
Santa Rosa, Calif.
"ATN's component-test solutions play a key role in helping
customers develop and manufacture components for the wireless RF and
data communication applications," said Vahe Adamian, founder and chief
technology officer of ATN. "Agilent's worldwide presence and
complementary technology and support will result in better integrated
solutions for component test."
